The Letter Sound Song is much more than just a song. It is a multifaceted learning system that has been designed specifically to help young children to learn the letters of the alphabet and their sounds, very quickly while having fun. I developed the music, lyrics, and actions of the Letter Sound Song more than ten years ago, and my brother, Mike Newman, an artist with a flair for offbeat cartoons, created the illustrations. We have been testing and refining the Letter Sound Song program ever since. Feedback from children, parents and teachers has been very positive, and I hope that you enjoy similar success when using the resources on this website.

#1 With an Adult’s Help
a) Select a version: Canadian (zed for z), or American (zee for z)
b) Choose the videos that you want to use
c) Download and print the blackline masters of the illustrations
d) Download the MP3 music file

a) Watch and listen to the videos
b) Sing along to the videos
c) Dance along to the videos
d) Colour in the illustrations, and put on a wall
e) Sing and Dance to the music MP3

When you have learned all the words and actions to the Letter Sound Song -
a) Ask an adult to download a Certificate, and to print your name and the date on it
b) Ask an adult to record a video of you performing the Letter Sound Song for you to keep. You may also wish to share this video on the Letter Sound Song Facebook page

I found the Letter Sound Song program to be an excellent resource for my JK/SK students. I posted the letter frieze around the room, and students often used it when trying to figure out letter/sound relationships during independent writing activities. I also used the DVD as a whole group activity as we learned the actions together with the catchy tune. Even my most challenged students enjoyed learning the sounds and actions. I sent the booklets home, along with a DVD for those students who needed extra exposure and practice. The resources were easy to use with students at various levels of development. A delightful learning tool for connecting letters of the alphabet to their sounds. At an early age, my children learned the alphabet through music and were enthusiastic to put letters, sounds and words together. They quickly developed a love for reading.
